Rhino Walking Safaris is pleased to confirm that Rhino Post Safari lodge is now accessible by 4×4 vehicle, current access is via the Sabie River high-level bridge, using the Alpha Loop as a short detour and Kruger Gate to exit and enter the park.

Road repairs and operational preparations are progressing well, and all planning remains firmly in place for reopening Rhino Post Safari Lodge on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, as previously communicated. By this time the road should be suitable for non 4×4 vehicles. Final assessments will continue, but conditions are improving steadily. Plans are also still on track to reopen Plains Camp (Home of Rhino Walking Safaris) on the 2nd of February.

Rainfall over the past 24 hours has been minimal, with only 5mm recorded, and blue skies beginning to break through the cloud cover, providing further encouragement as water levels stabilise and ground conditions slowly improve.

The following Kruger National Park access gates are currently open:

  • Kruger Gate (recommended for Rhino Post Safari Lodge guests)
  • Numbi Gate
  • Malelane Gate
  • Crocodile Bridge (no access between Lower Sabie and Skukuza)

These gates are open to overnight guests, as well as a limited number of day visitors in accordance with the SANParks quota system.

Our reservations office remains in close contact with all affected guests and travel partners, and further updates will be shared as conditions continue to improve. The lodge will only reopen once we are fully satisfied that access, safety and guest experience meet our operational standards.
