For a completely unrivalled wilderness experience, you can opt for a Sleep-Out adventure where you walk from Plains Camp to our Sleep-Out decks with guides. These 4m high elevated wooden platforms with shade cloth tents on the top level are where guests can sleep out under the stars. Imagine a giant treehouse with flush toilets and running water!

Our Sleep-Outs are the only place within the Kruger National Park that offers this unusual accommodation and pre-booking this activity is a must.

Drop-off at Skukuza Airport
*Drive and transfer times may vary due to ‘game traffic’. Elephants have right of way, lions don’t rush, and nobody argues with a buffalo.

Please note that while daily life at our lodges follows a regular pattern, small changes are sometimes necessary due to weather, the season or other circumstances beyond our control. The information provided gives you a good idea of what to expect during your safari.

Each tent is comfortably furnished and can accommodate 2 persons in twin beds. The screened en-suite bathroom has a toilet, brass shower and basin with hot running water. Each suite has its own private deck with Adirondack chairs overlooking the Timbetene plain where you can relax and enjoy the African wilderness on your doorstep.

  • Slippers and gowns provided
  • In-room safe
  • No individual mosquito nets
  • Gauze flaps protect all tent openings

Each sleeping platform accommodates 2 people in a mosquito net tent with stretcher beds – sleeping bags and duvets are provided. Waterproof cover sheets can be dropped over the tents in the event of rain. Paraffin lanterns & torches and battery operated spotlight available for game spotting. 2 bathrooms on communal deck include hot showers and flushing toilets.

Sleep-Outs are entirely weather dependent. The feasibility is affected not only by rain on the day, but also in the day or two prior as the decks are built in a very sensitive soil area. The area cannot be serviced after heavy rains without a high level of erosion risk to the access road. As Plains Camp is a small camp, private activities are unfortunately not available.

  • 4 platforms with stretchers with mattresses per platform – sleeping bags and duvets are provided
  • Elevated communal dining area
  • Accommodates 8 guests per Sleep-Out
  • 2 armed rangers per Sleep-Out
  • Overlooks the Xiteveteve waterhole
